Superficial Vein Thrombosis

Once again the hard work of the Thrombosis Research Group is making the news. Superficial Vein Thrombosis (in contrast to deep vein thrombosis) has represented a treatment challenge for clinicians. In this review, blood clot size (> 5 centimeters) and location (<3 centimeters from a deep vein) matters. This directs the treatment choice of anticoagulation (fondaparinux, rivaroxaban) versus conservative management (warm compresses, ibuprofen, compression stockings).
Kudos to the clinicians, Drs. Piazza, Krishnathasan, Hamade, Ujueta, Scimeca, Goldhaber, Bikdeli et al.
