ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION / STATEMENT OF NEED

Statin therapy is the recommended treatment for lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and reducing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk. However, evidence-based and guideline-recommended therapies, including ezetimibe and PCSK9 inhibitors, continue to be underutilized, even among the highest risk patients. Consequently, an unmitigated burden of cardiovascular risk persists. More education is urgently needed to address this problem. To that end, NATF invites you to join us for a virtual series of webinars that discuss some of these key issues in cholesterol management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review cholesterol guidelines used in U.S.-based practice.
  • Assess guideline-recommended strategies for lowering LDL-C in primary and secondary prevention of ASCVD.
  • Develop evidence-based treatment plans based on recommendations from the cholesterol guidelines.
  • Determine the appropriate LDL-C level for a patient using information including CAD, risk-enhancing factors, and updated guidelines and recommendations.
  • Describe the patient-provider conversation as a means to increase appropriate continuance with agreed care plan.
  • Apply evidence-based treatment plan for patient with elevated LDL-C with a history of statin intolerance.
